In a small village with a peaceful brook, clusters of tulou (earthen structures) nestle in hills and waters where villagers enjoy tranquil lives here. This is Tamu Village, a wonderland.
Exclaimed by attracted surveyor and scholars as a Wonderland, Taxia Village boasts more than 55 tulous, square or circular, and more than 30 compact and delicate green-brick buildings scattered in a narrow valley and a river running across under 10 stone bridges.
The founder of this village, the Zhangs, is a time-honored Hakka family dating back to the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). Since they started developing this village, the Zhangs have been working hard in unity to build a new home in luxuriant and wild mountains. After hundreds of years, they leave their offsprings and present the world unique ancient buildings and a wealth of cultural heritage.
Taxia Village is located 98 km away from Zhangzhou Downtown and 60 km from Nanjing Town. The shuttle buses from Zhangzhou West Station to Taxia village leave at 12:00 and arrive at about 16:00 (fare: RMB 29).
